Thoibi V.O (Village Organisation) is a society with 10 nos. of SHG working under the same and each SHG is with 10 nos. of women. A total of 100 nos. of women are attached with the same V.O. The women attached to the V.O were economically backward and wanted to overcome their distressed state The V.O is registered under National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Hailakandi. The V.O has received fund from NRLM but were unable to make any addition to the fund provided to them and thus was considered as inactive group. Later, when they came in contact with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Hailakandi and received many one day, vocational training and guidance, they came up with an small scale processing unit. They use to collect local seasonal fruits and vegetables from their village only with very low price and started processing and making various products like sweet ber pickle, salted ber pickle, jackfruit pickle, mango pickle, sweet tamarind pickle, salted tamarind pickle, chilli pickle etc. They also made fish pickles of different varieties. At the beginning, the group started selling their products from the house of the president of the V.O but later on with the help of NRLM, Hailakandi, the V.O opened up a shop in the main market point of the village and near the road side, which has helped them to increase the sale of their products.

Mrs. Uma Rani Singha, President, Thoibi V.O and Mrs. Brajarani Singha, Secretary, Thoibi V.O, of village Purbakittarbond PII, in their own words “KVK has given us the strength to empower our self and our poor village people by introducing the enterprise of value addition. We are very happy with the performance of our processing unit.” The V.O believes that their regular contacts with KVK have helped him to recoup their potentials and to strengthen their commitment towards the society.

The V.O has a production strategy based on seasonality chart for crops developed by KVK for the local fruits. This enables them to organise and store raw materials round the year. The group are well utilizing the unit and earning an average of Rs. 7400/ month. As a beginner, his group makes a net income of Rs. 88800/ year solely from processing. They are now planning to introduce more products and increasing the capacity of processing unit
